The WB's midseason shuffle. Unfortunately, Everwood moves to Monday at 9 pm, which conflicts with 24. Hmmm, maybe my roommate will have a wireless adaptor for her TiVo by that time so I can get things off her TiVo! Also, Pepper Dennis (the Rebecca Romijn show) and the Bedford Diaries (the Milo "Jess" Ventimiglia show about college kids and sex) will be debuting on Tuesday at 9 pm and Wednesday at 9 pm respectively.

A recommendation for two new shows: Conviction on BBC America and Epitafios on HBO. I think they're both scary crime dramas.

A rant about season 4 of Angel, and (later in the article) about shows that obviously haven't plotted their season story arcs. This is why I can't watch Lost. Although I still watch 24, so go figure.

Also, I watched Red Eye last night and Rachel McAdams was so cute that she kept me up past my bedtime. Or rather, I watched the movie until the end even though I knew I should go to bed. Anyhoo, I think this is the one movie where plot actually revolves around the use of AirFones or plane phones or whatever you call the phones embedded in the back of the seat in front of you. Good thing she wasn't seated in a bulkhead row. I thought the AirFone stuff was hilarious.

I'm usually not all Rainman about production details, but I have to say that I was pretty entertained/distracted by the fact that it was obvious that the same extras kept walking back and forth in the background during some of the airport scenes. The two security guards in uniforms, as well as young dude with messenger bag, were way too distinctive to just blend in. So it was awesome to watch them in the background at least four or five times going in different directions, or with different people.

A Q&A with NBC about their shows. Among other things, they talk about holding Scrubs off the schedule until January, and that the Office will finish its season (the full number of episodes) at the end of March.

I'm intrigued by some of NBC's new midseason shows. Conviction is the new Dick Wolf (Law & Order) show, so of course, I'm going to have to check that out. Heist follows some thieves who are planning and then robbing jewelry stores over the course of the season. And then there is the show (Teachers), which has Sarah Alexander from the BBC's Coupling. The teacher concept doesn't sound that interesting, but I'll have to see Sarah in action on an American show.

NBC's Treasure Hunter reality show/content will premiere this summer.

This will be the final season of The West Wing; the Office and My Name is Earl have already been picked up for a full set of episodes for next year. And Law & Order will be moving to Wednesday at 9 pm.

I should admit that the OC has now lost out to Dancing with the Stars; I guess I'll watch the episodes in reruns or on the DVD.

The Sci Fi Channel will be airing the first season of the BBC's Dr. Who, which I think has gotten pretty good reviews. The episodes start in March.

Supposedly, Fox will show two hours of Arrested Development on Feb 10, as a "season finale". I won't believe it until I actually see the episodes on the air, since Fox has been scheduling and then pulling AD at the last minute...

UPDATE: It's scheduled against the *Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics*. Luckily, I'm not a big fan of the Olympics so no TiVo conflicts for me.

What is it with Disney feel-good sports movies? There are more of them than I can count, but every time I see a trailer I feel strangely compelled to go see the movie... this week's Glory Road is no exception.

I think I saw Miracle, The Rookie, and Remember the Titans all either in the theater or shortly after they came out on video. Or both. Me = sucker.

Lazy Sunday

Related to my post down below about the iTunes Music Store and people actually buying their videos, I'm willing to bet that some substantial part of their "sold" songs are actually things like the "Lazy Sunday" Saturday Night Live skit that was free when it first came out (looks like it actually costs money now).

I must come right out and admit that I was one of the people who bought that video, for no money. Credit for pointing me at the video goes to my lightsaber-ninja friend, and if there's anyone out there who somehow managed to escape the viralness of this video, here it is in a much easier to deal with format:

Someone tell me what they thought of Heather Graham's new show, Emily's Reasons Why Not. I never thought much of Ms. Graham until her awesome stint on Scrubs last season, which certainly gave some hope that her comedic talent will translate into her own sitcom.

However, the 8 min or so of the pilot that I saw yesterday does not bode well.

On a related note, Scrubs started again last week, and with two new episodes a week life is good.

"We have sold on iTunes over 850 million songs. We are well on our way to hitting a billion in the next weeks. That is over a billion songs a year run rate. Our market share continues to be very strong - 83 percent. As you know one of the newest things on iPods is TV shows. Since we launched on October 12th we have sold over 8 million videos. For the first time last week we added some sports. For the first time with ABC and ESPN we put up some Bowl games."

This is madness, do people really want to watch shows on that tiny iPod video screen?

The results of this week's Dancing with the Stars brought up a question for me. Master P (with partner Ashly DelGrosso) seemed like by far the worst dancing couple, mainly because Master P did not look like he was trying at all. But they escaped elimination, and the ESPN sportscaster guy got the axe instead. Audience voting was the deciding factor here, so the question is, who garnered the votes for Master P and partner? Either rap fans really rocked the vote (which I kind of doubt, since do you think teenage boys like Dancing with the Stars?) or Ashly has lots of fans (which I think might be reasonable, since she's attractive, seems likable and did well in the last season). The competing theory may be that ESPN sportscasters just don't have any fans except their family. Huh.

I watched NBC's new show The Book Of Daniel last Friday night and found it pretty compelling. The characters are flawed, but interesting and the plot kept me stuck to the television at 2 in the morning. We'll see if they can keep it up beyond the pilot episode, which frequently ends up as the best and tightest story. I'll be watching next week.

Also, I finally saw Mad Hot Ballroom, which was very cute, and I noticed that Charlotte, the woman who danced with John Hurley in last season's Dancing with the Stars, was one of the judges in the final competition.

And to top off the television marathon/tragedy of my weekend, I also watched Roll Bounce, which was cheesy and crappy, but in a good way. It had some amazing skating, and included a Charlie Murphy cameo (is it still a cameo if the person is in a bit part that recurs throughout the movie? maybe that's just a small role, rather than a cameo).

Apparently, there is a TiVo Series 3 coming out that has dual HDTV tuners and a feature where you can buy an extra hard drive to expand its capacity without replacing the unit. The tomcat is currently at CES looking at more technology than you can shake a stick at. I wasn't able to find a link to additional information.

HBO's The Sopranos, Ocean's Eleven, and a number of other titles will be released in HD-DVD.

There are rumors out there that HBO might start selling video content on iTunes. The author, like me, wants The Wire on demand. Of course, if old episodes of The Wire were offered, and at a cheapish price, I might be tempted to buy them just to generate some demand, and to repent for the fact that I might have watched a burned DVD of season 3...

Oh dear, MTV might have a reality show on the weddings of 18 to 22-year-olds. Scary.

Google may sell video...

New episodes of Futurama may be produced... and ESPN and ABC Sports will offer iTunes downloads for video, including many "This is SportsCenter" commercials.

Also, after watching Kung Fu Hustle with the tomcat and his parents, I have decided that the tomcat and I should never be allowed to pick movies for family viewing. Kung Fu Hustle didn't have any horribly awkward and graphic love scenes, but it just wasn't a good watch-with-parents movie. I had heard good things, and it had its moments, but I think much of it was lost on me. Sigh.

I finally got enough TiVo referrals to get myself a free TiVo (woo!), so I ordered it up, but the confirmation email says that it may take up to 8-10 weeks to process my reward. Bastards! Taunting me by holding back my tivo! They are cruel.

I've also gotten taken in by Sudoku, courtesy of a sudoku book that was given to the Tomcat by my mother as a Christmas gift. I had to get a book of my own and now I frantically alternate between reading the Economist, reading my new book, watching TV/DVDs and doing more sudoku. Also, this is the first time I've actually needed a pencil (since I'm moron and keep screwing up my puzzles) in a long time. It was a task to find one, since in the past four years I haven't need one, so I just threw most of them out. I think I might have found the last remaining pencil in my posession...

And lastly, I finished reading Tad Williams' Shadowmarch and was honestly somewhat disappointed. Not as disappointed as by the latest Robin Hobb books, but definitely not completely sucked in. Which was probably better for my sleeping patterns. Anyway, I don't recommend it, but I'll read the second book and let you know if that redeems the first book.
