During my last work trip, my TiVo must have been suffering from separation anxiety and just decided to "record" shows, but with no data in them. It was a sad moment when gecko had to inform me that about a week's worth of shows had bitten the dust. Thankfully, most of the networks have decided to put their shows online, but that also means that I have to set aside time to watch said shows online. In another sad twist, for some reason, my laptop refuses to use our home wireless network for more than five minutes, meaning I spend my online time at home tethered to our router by a cable. I guess this means that I'm going to be hiding out in our living room with headphones, watching 24 and Studio 60. Or maybe I'll just go totoro's route and just stop watching TV altogether.
But since the tomcat is getting ready to repo the Wii and take it home with him, I guess I'll have a lot more free time on my hands. Hopefully he'll still leave the DS Lite with me so I can OD on Sudoku.

TiVo mishaps

Nielsens
College students will finally be counted in Nielsen ratings; I didn't realize they weren't counted. Apparently there are also plans in the works to count people watching in bars. I certainly hope they don't start counting for those horrible CNN TVs in the airport with the ridiculously loud sound. Sigh. I'd be angry about that.

Enchanted
My search for the Patrick Dempsey fairy tale movie lead me to this page, which includes a mini-preview of the premise of the movie, although no true footage from the movie, whch is called Enchanted. (The movie releases next November). However, the trailer, which is a bit down the page, is actually a Disney channel entertainment show hosted by teenagers with pretty good TV hosting skills and the entertaining sight of Johnny Depp doing a somewhat serious interview with like a 13-year old. It's pretty funny.

Blades of Glory
The trailer for Blades of Glory was genuinely funny to me. And I'm psyched to see Will Arnett from Arrested Development again. I hope the whole movie is as funny...

Penelope
The trailer for the Reese Witherspoon produced movie where where Christina Ricci is a girl with a pig snout is up. I think it's supposed to be a fairy tale of some sort? I'll have to check out the trailer. I'm hoping to see the trailer for the Patrick Dempsey fairy tale movie soon as well.

Heroes, the Super Bowl, and Bring It On-er
Heroes had its first new episode in over a month last night, and it did not disappoint. It was a little surprising, since I think I often find that a long hiatus in this kind of show just ends up making you less interested. The whole thing driving your desire to watch is the constant wondering of what's going to happen next, and having a long hiatus means that this desire wanes until you eventually forget what you were excited about to begin with.
This is closely related to the whole 2-weeks between Conference Championships and the Super Bowl issue. The AFC Championship game was one of the best ever, but yet by the time the big game rolls around, most people are going to forget that they were ever interested in watching it. The things that keep the Super Bowl going are the huge amounts of advertising and the various SB parties that people like to hold. Maybe people have Heroes parties too.
One last thing related to Heroes is the direct to video movie Bring It On: All or Nothing. This is the 3rd movie in the storied franchise and I can't really remember what happens in it except that it hurt to watch it, and that there are two people from Heroes that were in it. See if you can figure out who the 2nd one is. IMDB is cheating.

Love the Beatles
So one of the funniest results of the tomcat going to CES (the Consumer Electronics Show) is that he came back with a new favorite CD. No, that's not the funny part yet. The funny part is that the new favorite CD is yes, the soundtrack from the new Beatles/Cirque du Soleil show. Apparently there is some amazing surround sound whatever stuff and it's the Beatles so that obviously classic, but one has to find humor in the fact that he now owns a Cirque du Soleil soundtrack. He's also trying to persuade me that I don't need to blog about every "funny-funny" (as opposed to funny ha ha) things he does, but I'm not buying it. This is fun. I told him that if he gets his own blog or decides to start blogging here, he can get back at me, but until then, too bad!

Dwight strikes in the blogosphere
So Rainn Wilson (Dwight from the Office) is blogging from Sundance, but the most disturbing thing is how much he does not look like Dwight. He looks like a hipster! Crazy.

Beauty and the Geek
The new season of Beauty and the Geek started a few weeks ago, and it's possibly better than last season, if only because I like the people a little more. I'm rooting for the Nadia and Mario team for now, although I find I am happiest if I can just skip to the end for most episodes and ignore all the reality show dramaz (people crying etc).
Watching this show always gets me thinking about what I would need to do to actually be a contestant, and I really think that I could bring some much needed uber-nerd to the show. I'd have to ignore everything my sister ever taught me about how to dress, but since I barely retain any of that knowledge anyway, it shouldn't be too hard (perhaps I could spend the whole show wearing Tevas with socks, or shorts with black dress shoes and white athletic socks). My typically geeky interests and graduate student status should make me an immediate front-runner to get on the show.
Someone please make sure I get notified when auditions for next season start.

Dancelife
Since I am always a sucker for dance shows, I'll be watching the J.Lo produced MTV reality show about dancers. Hopefully it will be as entertaining as the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders show.
I should also mention that my roommate gecko has started her own profile in Elebits and has made it the third level. Her descent into insanity has begun.

What am I doing with my time?
If you want to know how I've been spending my free time, I've finally found something that breaks the stranglehold of TiVo and Netflix, and is going to impact my desire to read more books... The tomcat got a Wii before Thanksgiving (there's a fairly funny story here about going to a store at midnight, doing research to find out where Wii's would be, and then basically getting up constantly in the middle of the night to see if Amazon had posted their supply yet) and has been playing with it for a month or two. I remained skeptical of the games, although I did find Excite Truck entertaining. But then disaster struck, when we bought the game Elebits. Yep, I'm officially hooked on the game. I love it! Although I'm having trouble killing/avoiding/knocking out the evil elebits that attack and then kill me. Sigh. So imagine that I'm trying to find things in this world while basically running away from things that are chasing me. It's basically Pac-Man, but with a more sophisticated controller... I think the game is actually better and more interesting than that, but sadly, my skills are going to limit me to Pac-Man like actions.

The Sports Gal
The Sports Gal (wife of ESPN's Sports Guy) has earned her own archive, which is totally awesome. I should send an email to this guy to campaign to keep her weekly column, because I find it hilarious.

The Wire on BET
No more excuses for not watching the Wire! It starts airing on BET so if you get basic cable, you should definitely check it out, since it's the best show ever! Watch three episodes and if you don't like it, I'll stop bugging you about it.

Goodbye OC
The OC will air its series finale in February. I've caught one or two episodes this year, and I have to say that it has been slightly better, and Taylor was actually a good addition to the cast, but I'm a bit happy that this will be one less season pass in my list.

Catch and Release
Jennifer Garner looks like she's going to be in a terrible movie, judging by the preview for Catch and Release. And yet the romantic comedy part kicks in and I suddenly want to see it. Someone help me.
